How your photo stone is made

Every SoulPrintify stone is finished by hand. Your design is transferred onto a natural stone, one thin layer at a time, then sealed to last. Here is the whole process, start to finish.

  • Made to order, just for you
  • Finished by hand
  • One of a kind, like the stone

From your photo to your stone

  1. Step 1

We choose and clean your stone

Every stone is a natural river or beach stone, so no two are the same shape or colour. We pick one with a smooth face for your design and wash it clean.

  2. Step 2

We prime it, and let it cure

Dark stones get a white base, brushed on in thin coats until the stone’s own colour is hidden. Lighter stones get a clear base, so their natural colour shows around your design.

The base is then left to cure for hours, until it is just tacky enough to hold the ink.

  3. Step 3

We press your design on by hand

Your design is printed on photo paper, trimmed to fit and laid face down on the stone. We press it down by hand and push out every air bubble, so the whole picture takes.

  4. Step 4

We rub the paper away, layer by layer

The paper is soaked through, then rubbed away with our fingertips one thin layer at a time, until only the ink is left on the stone.

It is slow, careful work, and it is what makes the picture look painted into the stone rather than printed on top.

  5. Step 5

    We finish and seal it

Once it is dry we check it, touch up any tiny gaps, and seal it with clear varnish. The seal protects the colours and makes the stone water-resistant.

Why every stone is a little different

Each stone is natural, so its shape, size and colour are its own. The pictures you see when you order are examples; yours will be one of a kind.

Because the picture is rubbed on by hand and follows the stone’s surface, you may see a little of the stone’s texture through it. That is what makes it look painted rather than printed.
